Hidden Villa hosts September fundraisers
Hidden Villa, the environmental farm and wilderness preserve in Los Altos Hills, has scheduled two fundraising events in September.
• “Our Annual Gathering” is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Duveneck House. The evening aims to rally support for Hidden Villa’s mission, programs and commitment to inclusion. Attendees will participate in a tomato tasting that will determine the varieties grown on the property next summer and can sample Hidden Villa’s bounty, rotating through food stations showcasing the organic farm’s vegetables, meat, eggs and flowers. The Biodegrading Jazzmen will perform, and the event will feature a silent auction. Tickets are $50-$150.
• “Fiddles & Fun on the Farm: A Country Dance” is slated 4-7 p.m. Sept. 23 in Hidden Villa’s Dana Center. The family-friendly event will include a farm supper and music and dancing with caller Andy Wilson and his band. Tickets are $75. Proceeds will provide local residents in need with fresh vegetables grown at Hidden Villa in partnership with the Food and Nutrition Center at Community Services Agency in Mountain View.

Concert features Broadway hits
Stephen Gill and friends are scheduled to present the bio-musical “The Sound of Music: The Music of Rodgers & Hammerstein” 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at Foothills Congregational Church, 461 Orange Ave., Los Altos.
The evening will feature highlights and backstage stories from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway hits, including “South Pacific,” “The King and I,” “Oklahoma,” “Carousel” and “The Sound of Music.”
The concert is sponsored by P.E.O. Chapter OZ. Proceeds support educational opportunities for women.

Featured speaker Chuck Kohler, 93, a Pearl Harbor survivor, will share his memories of Dec. 7, 1941, when explosion debris and window glass crashed down on his head as the first bombs began to fall.

City dedicates veterans plaza Sept. 19
A dedication ceremony for the newly named Veterans Community Plaza is scheduled 5:30-6 p.m. Sept. 19 at the plaza, located at the intersection of Main and State streets in downtown Los Altos.
In July 2016, the Los Altos City Council voted to add “Veterans” to the name of Community Plaza, after hearing from veterans and other supporters of a name change.
Ceremony sponsors include the Los Altos Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, local American Legion Post 558, Foothill College, the Los Altos Village Association and the Town Crier.
Wildcat Adventure visits Hillview
Wildcat specialists Rob and Barbara Dicely have scheduled a Wildcat Adventure presentation 2 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Hillview Community Center Multipurpose Room, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
The presentation, sponsored by the nonprofit Wild Cat Education and Conservation Fund, will feature five live wildcats, which could include a cougar, cheetah, fishing cat, black leopard, ocelot or Geoffroy’s cat.
Each cat is shown onstage as the Dicelys share information about its habits, habitat and survival issues.
The goal of the Wild Cat Education and Conservation Fund is to educate the public about the decreasing population of wildcat species around the world, to provide funding for worldwide wildcat conservation projects and to offer safe refuge for captive wildcats.
Admission is $10 adult, $5 children under 12.

AAUW schedules kickoff meeting
The Los Altos/Mountain View branch of the American Association of University Women has scheduled a kickoff meeting for its membership year 3 p.m. Sept. 17 at Neutra House, 183 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.

‘Train Days’ makes stop at LA History Museum
The Los Altos History Museum’s annual “Train Days” event is scheduled 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 and 17 at the museum, 51 S. San Antonio Road.
Designed to celebrate model railroading, the event will include elaborate layouts, intricate scenery and scaled renditions of prototypes, engines and theme cars complete with steam, lights and sound. Visitors can explore the gauges and scales associated with model railroading as private collectors and clubs showcase their trains and layouts and field questions about the mechanics, electronics and history behind the locomotives and railroads that inspired them.

Fire department offers CERT training
The Santa Clara County Fire Department has scheduled Community Emergency Response Team training 6-9 p.m. Sept. 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28 and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
The CERT program educates residents about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their immediate areas and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.
Cost is $35.

American Legion hosts monthly meetings

American Legion Post 558, which serves Los Altos, hosts monthly meetings the first Wednesday of each month at 347 First St., Los Altos.
Meetings begin with a happy hour and dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a business meeting at 7 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled Sept. 6.
Guest speakers include military fellows from the Hoover Institution.

Westwind program seeks help with horses
Hidden Hill Stable Scott Twp
Organizers of the Westwind 4-H Riding for the Handicapped program seek volunteers 14 years old and up who have an interest in working with horses.
No previous experience is necessary, just a desire to help. Students can receive community service credits.
Riding classes are scheduled 4 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays at Westwind Community Barn, 27210 Altamont Road, Los Altos Hills.

Staffhidden Hills Stables
Volunteers are needed on Mondays or Thursdays, or both. The program also seeks volunteers interested in helping with social media, 4-H coordination, grant writing and fundraising events. Those who don’t have time to volunteer can still participate by making a donation in support of a rider or horse.
